SignBridge was conceived as an outgrowth of the STL ASL Meetup Group. Founded in 2017, the meetup group was established with a simple goal: to create opportunities for people who shared an interest in sign language to practice with each other. But it became so much more. Connections were made. Friendships formed. A community was built. As we shared our stories, a common thread emerged – we all wanted connection.
That’s why, eight years later, the STL ASL Meetup Group evolved to become SignBridge, a 501c3 organization dedicated to bridging the gap between Deaf and hearing communities.
SignBridge is all about bringing people together—creating a space where everyone can connect, learn, and communicate with ease. At SignBridge, we will continue to provide opportunities for sign language learners to practice and develop their skills in low-pressure settings. But now we’re also building more connections through a deeper understanding of Deaf culture.
For example, we are:
- Creating opportunities for Deaf individuals to share their skills and expertise.
- Offering immersive ASL instruction for families to enhance communication.
- Advising businesses on accessibility to foster more inclusive environments.
- Supporting Deaf arts and cultural expression to celebrate and amplify creativity.
Our work will also create meaningful employment opportunities for the community. If you joined the STL ASL Meetup to learn more about ASL or connect with others, we invite you to continue this journey with us on the SignBridge.
Join our mailing list and check back often to stay informed on our progress. We can’t wait to connect with you!
